About European digital innovation hubs (EDIHs)
European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) are one-stop shops that support companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and public organizations in their digital transformation journey. Acting as intermediaries, they provide access to technical expertise, digital skills training, financial advice, and innovation services to help businesses adopt cutting-edge technologies like AI, cybersecurity, and high-performance computing. EDIHs also facilitate networking and collaboration between companies, research institutions, and public authorities, playing a crucial role in accelerating digital adoption and strengthening Europe's competitiveness in the digital economy. They are funded by the European Commission and member states to ensure widespread access to digital innovation across all regions of the EU.
What EDIHs offer
Every EDIH provides four types of services. Their exact scope depends on the specialisation of each hub.
Test before invest
Try out digital technologies before you commit to a larger investment – through demonstrations, proofs of concept, testing and experimentation, often with access to the hub's technical infrastructure.
Skills and training
Develop the digital skills your team needs, from introductory workshops to specialised training in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or high-performance computing.
Support to find investments
Get advice on financing your digital transformation, including access to public funding programmes, investors and financial instruments, and help with becoming investment-ready.
Innovation ecosystem and networking
Connect with technology providers, research organisations, other companies and public bodies, as well as with other EDIHs and the Enterprise Europe Network across Europe.
Who can use EDIH services
EDIH services are aimed primarily at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including start-ups, but hubs also support mid-caps and public sector organisations. Many hubs start the cooperation with a digital maturity assessment, a structured check of where your organisation stands in its digital transformation. The assessment is repeated later so that you can see the progress you have made.
How EDIHs are funded
EDIHs are co-funded by the European Union through the Digital Europe Programme, which covers 50% of the costs. The remaining 50% comes from member states, associated countries, regions or private sources. Promising hubs that did not receive funding from the Digital Europe Programme can be awarded a Seal of Excellence, which helps them obtain funding from other sources. Thanks to this public funding, many EDIH services are available to companies for free or at a significantly reduced cost.
